The Mighty Hunter

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
Slinks through grass in his usual way,
Poised to pounce on an unaware bird,
When it flies off fast without a word.

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
All outdoors is his buffet.
Grass and bugs are what he eats.
Does he call the flowers treats?

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
Keeping all his foes at bay.
If intruders dare appear,
He spits a hiss so they run in fear.

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey.
Sometimes the chase leads him astray.
Just in case he ever gets lost,
His collar has his name embossed.

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
And saves it for a rainy day.
He hides his treasures, more or less,
But who has been and left a mess?

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey.
Once he’s roused there’s no delay.
He runs so fast it’s like he flies.
He sure gets lots of exercise.

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
Until he’s drenched by a water spray.
He shakes off dry from nose to toes,
Losing track of where his prey goes.

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey.
He doesn’t do this job for pay.
I often find his generous gift,
A creature who was not so swift.

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
But is his prey on holiday?
The fish that were have now all gone.
Why oh why did they move on?

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
Sometimes to my mom’s dismay.
When she wears her angora sweater,
He sees a rabbit and must get her.

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
Despite how big or what they weigh.
He spots my dad, a moving target,
But doesn’t take his plans too far yet.

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
Crouching in his hideaway.
Who can say what he’s looking at,
Climbing drapes like an acrobat.

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
Leaving my room in disarray,
I’ll pull a lace to tie my shoe
And, with his claw, he pulls too.

The Mighty Hunter stalks his prey,
His favorite way to spend a day.
‘Til he spots the shadow of another,
And is pounced upon by his brother.
